I just upgraded Firefox from v.10 to v.12.
It gives me an error so I reinstalled v.10

Same error.
Tried two restore points. No help

Does anyone know how to find a copy of
MSVCR100.dll

I tried to find it on this borrowed laptop
but without success.

I am open to any suggestions.
Thanks

Don't quote me, but I think this may have something to do with the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package ... try downloading and reinstalling here: http://www.microsoft...ls.aspx?id=5555 or for x64 systems here: http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=14632

I know this is not a humorous situation kestrel...just something I happened to find while searching Google. The beginning is a bit funny when you aren't trying to fix a PC I admit:

Reinstalling C++ seems to be recommended as stated here:

http://answers.micro...6e-5e4958558090

I guess the most appropriate version of the file would contain info pertaining to the C++ program mentioned here...

Go for the reinstallation of C++, and let us know. That should do the trick.

Thanks Claw
Working between a computer that is on-line and gathering information
and then transferring it to the computer that can't get on line is frustrating.
OK this is what happened. I downloaded the MS C++ redistributable program
and installed it. No Help.
I deleted Firefox and reinstalled it. No help
I uninstalled Firefox again and through regedit, I cleared (most) things
I could find referring to Firefox.
Reinstalled the MS C++ file and then Firefox v.12. Rebooted.
It got on line.....but only once before the MSVCR100.dll error showed up again.
Perhaps I missed something in the registry that calls for the dll but I have not
found it yet.
Thanks for your suggestion. I think we are close.

Hey Kestrel...in the article it was recommended that the user install the 2005, 2008, and 2010 version of C++. All I can think of, but I am googling around. marko might have something for you with all his worldly travels and experiences...

Don't know why I didnt' ask before, but other browsers same response? Seems like I've had this one before. Can't remember

Kestrel, you didn't mention previously that you couldn't get online - that's probably the first thing we should have been looking at - what exactly is the problem right now as it stands - does FF work OK? Are you still able to get online? Are you getting a "MSVCR100.dll cannot be found" error?. What other problems are you still experiencing?

NB - the re distributable package would only work after a reboot anyway, so chances are this would have fixed the "MSVCR100.dll" error probably.

Sorry, just an interesting subject to me. .dlls are data libraries (dynamic link libraries). They contain references to programs or installed portions of programs. I got a .dll error recently when I "uninstalled" Windows Installer with an uninstaller program. The problem was sometimes flash related (videos in Opera woudln't work) sometimes macro related (ActiveX controls) and also there was a Shockwave video in an Excel spreadsheet that disappeared. In a macro heavy spreadsheet none of the macros worked. Also, macro program DoItAgain wouldn't open. Well, I found Windows installer (a newer version actually), installed it, and then things still did not work, but I knew I had removed .dlls as I had pushed the remove button on them myself, and I knew they were from the Windows Installer. I figured maybe installation references to the previously mentioned programs were in the missing .dll(s). Then I reinstalled flash, all macro programs, and shockwave, (and some others that wouldn't open before...DoItAgain, etc.) and behold everything was back.

Refs in Windows installer .dlls would probably be pretty basic records of the installation of the program itself, so I guess it wouldn't just do to try to repair any old .dll problem this same way, but I would be interested to know if reinstalling flash or shockwave or directx or another one of those controllers might do it (something browsers use). Like I think the .dlls sometimes might actually be there, having been removed and then replaced with a default setup (emergency replacement without references to updates, installs, upgrades, etc.), and then perhaps error message is not exactly on target about the problem. Program just hits a snag finding no reference to the update it needs and the error message pops from Windows.

I don't know, but I don't think I'll upgrade from Firefox 3.5 or whatever I have to find out LOL...

Without Firefox working, I am not ale to get on line.
I have deleted Firefox and "scrubbed" the registry again of any signs of Firefox
thinking something was calling up this dll. Rebooted.
Reinstalled the C++ 2005 file you sent me. Rebooted
Did a search for MSVCR100.dll to make sure it was installed. Not found.
Not sure what that means. I never found this dll on any other computer either.
Perhaps it is required for Firefox v.14 only. That is the upgrade I did that seemed to start
all these problems.
The second time I scrubbed the registry for signs of Firefox, I found a Mozilla file and deleted it, just in case.
Doing so probably wiped out Thunderbird!
Just reinstalled Firefox v.12.
It seems to be working...so far.
I'll sign off for not and check tomorrow.
Sincere thanks for your efforts.
Keep your finger crossed.
K
PS for some reason I am not being recognized on this site.
Will worry about this tomorrow.

I just looked on mine kestrel. I found msv100.dll in PC Wizard n the list of .dlls.

I've had those little login problems with FBB too sometimes. I think it's mostly like your situation where a file goes missing that starts them. Usually happens after an uninstall or a cleaner episode seems. Had a bunch of confilcts with the release of Opera 12, but they went away quickly. If you can stay on the net, hopefully you'll be in the clear.
