I am always ready to look at alternative software. After trying Nitro PDF I have decided to use it exclusively. The tabbed interface for reading multiple files is second to none. To date I have not found another reader with this capability, so due to this factor and the editing capabilities and the licensing, I have dumped Adobe and other PDF readers.

I started with Adobe Reader version 4 and ended with version 9 or 10. I still think it is a very good reader. My reason for changing was security, and also the file size made it slow. So I used FoxIt reader, which was quicker, but I never liked it entirely. I abandoned Foxit when it became bundled with adware.Folk recommended Sumatra, which was fast indeed, but the GUI was absolutely awful. Then I switched to STDU, which is more than just a PDFreader. STDU has a clean and crispy layout. However, it loaded somewhat slow, and Asquared kept flagging some files of it as riskful, so I moved on again.  I finally settled for PDF-Xchange, which I have been using for years now: pleasant layout and very fast.

Sumatra is fine if you just need a quick read,,like when I lost my watch instructions,,I got the pdf of them and read it on Sumatra.
PDF-Xchange,,seems to be a reader alot of users are switching to ,,because of all the crap getting bundled in with Foxit.

I used to use Foxit, but it got bloated.  I quite like Sumatra because it's portable.  But Nitro (pro) is the bees knees - excellent!

Something I have to add. Lately Foxit has become excruciatingly slow on my Vista machine, especially when loading a PDF file in my browser (any browser) and behaves strangely: f. ex, it will open in full page view while I haven't selected that feature as permanent. Of course, it might just be... Vista : after a bit more than a year of working more or less correctly (after 3 full reinstalls in little more than 2 years) Vista has, once more, began to slowly degrade and showing strange behavior, like a mouse cursor stuck somewhere on my (large) screen and not even responding to the Ctrl combination. I probably will shortly have to reinstall my image, losing quite a few of irrecuparable free installs of paid software :girl_cray2: ...).

Maybe I should just have reinstalled Foxit, but I'm now giving Nitro a try and, indeed, it loads blazingly fast (not yet tried in a browser). I also like the small button to minimize the obtrusive banner menu (a bit too discrete: I really had to search for it!)...

I have been on this site for a few hours now and am looking for a FREE PDF read/write/converter, IF there is any such animal.
However, since I am new here and seem unable to come to a complete consensus about which one of the PDF downloads
I should select  ... So, I will not be selecting from this site at all.
I guess I will just have to resort to Google my happy friend to help me since I'm only wasting time here.

Sorry !!!
