Hope someone can help.
My father in law has stumbled across a load of old pictures he scanned years ago, trouble is there are still in a negative format!
Does anyone know of any software that willconvert these negative images to proper colour ones?

Nick, I'm no photo expert but if they are negatives I think you need additional hardware to convert them into proper prints, I could be wrong but I'll do some checking anyway but if anyone else can chip in here please do

Having done a little research on this one Nick, I'm sure that you will need additional hardware to achieve these results. The quote below is from THIS website and refers to scanning negatives using a flatbed scanner.

Thanks Mark, sorry for not being clearer, they are already scanned in as Jpegs, but apear as negatives!!
No idea how he did it ! He did have the negative scanner at one point with teh software but that is now lost !

Ahaaa, in that case you may very well be in luck, if your working from a previously scanned negative then you may find what you need with some of image editing freeware HERE. A good place to start would be freeware such as Free Image Editor or possibly GIMP.
I would try those 2 first and see what results you get, please let me know how you get on

I was using photoimpression, I believe 3.0. Came preloaded on a HP Media Center PC which I purchased in 2003. I used my basic $99 canon scanner/printer and scanned old negative from the 30's & 40's. Then used photoimpression and there was a button in the program that looked like a negative and it immediately converted most of the pictures perfectly. I couldn't believe how easy it was. Not all pictures came out but was amazed at the quality of a number of them and I could then could usually identify the rest of them. Problem - my computer crashed (motherboard, not hard drive). I have not been able to find another program that does the same thing. Haven't been able to get Gimp to do it or the free trial version of Photoimpress 6. Didn't get through all the negatives before the crash so have to find something.
