Did you make a new years resolution?

Now we're nearly a third of the way into New Year, I'm wondering if anyone made any resolutions, and more importantly, have we all stuck to them?.

For most of us, it's about giving something up, like not drinking as much, or eating, and in my case it's smoking!.

I've been smoking now for about 25 years and have tried a couple of times in the past but never really gave it 100% of my committment. I have vowed however, that 2012 WILL be the year I give up smoking for good and although I haven't put a firm date in my mind I'm actually trying to significantly reduce the amount I smoke right now and change my smoking habits. For example, an hour ago I had a coffee with 2 pancakes and lashings of butter - normally the minute I finish eating those I'd have lit up, but I've managed to go an hour now without doing so.

I know a lot of people will probably say, big deal, an hour's nothing, do a week !!. But for a smoker, smoking is not only an addiction, it's very much a habit and for most of us it's been a habit of a lifetime - breaking that habit slowly will begin to seperate those triggers, well it will for me anyway. At the end of the day I know I can go right now and have a cigarette, I actually do want one now because I'm talking about it !!

But hey, I'll have one, and it may be my last one today, it might not, but one things for sure, I'm determined to break this habbit and quit for good this year, one way or another - I've seen too many people develop too many problems through smoking and at the end of the day it's just not worth taking the risk anymore - we also have a grandchild on the way this year (May to be exact) and me and my wife want to be around for a lot of years to come to enjoy the family and not have to run outside everytime the kids are around, so here's to whatever resolution you have made this year, and do tell please

Wishing you all a very healthy and prosperous new year in 2012

Joke of the day!!

Hi Everyone, welcome to the Joke of the Day.

ANYONE can post here. If you have a favourite joke to tell, this is the place.

Just keep 'em clean and non-racist please!!

_________________________________________________

My wife thinks I'm too nosy. At least that's what she keeps scribbling in her diary.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An Irish businessman is traveling on a small 4-engine plane, flying home to Dublin. Shortly after takeoff the pilot comes over the intercom and announces.."We are having problems with number one engine so we have shut it down. There is no need for any anxiety, we still have 3 engines left and it just means we will be arriving half an hour late."
About ten minutes later the pilot comes back on the intercom and announces..."Sorry to report that number two engine has also failed, we still have two engines fully operational and we will now be arriving 90 minutes late."
Another half hour passes and the pilot again comes on the intercom..."Well this is embarrassing, number 3 engine is now also not working so we will arrive at our destination 3 hours late."
The Irishman turns to the passenger sitting next to him and says.."Jaysus, I hope the fourth engine doesn't break......we'll be up here all bl**dy night!!"
Boom Boom!!
BTW: Happy St. Patrick's Day to all our Irish friends. I'll be drinking green beer at bowls today!!!
What was the first tune you ever purchased?
For me, the time was 1982 (oh god) and I was a mere 11 years old - I remember buying my very first 7" (seven inch) record ... weren't things much simpler back then??. Tell us the first tune you bought and stick a link in from youtube (just paste the entire link in your post and it will show like below )
Modern Romance were a British pop music band that found popularity in the early 1980s. Formed in 1980 by previous members of an earlier punk rock band, The Leyton Buzzards, the band enjoyed a string of UK chart hits before they broke up in 1985. They are probably best known for their hit single, Best Years of Our Lives, which made the UK Top 10 and later featured in the movie Shrek (2001) and its subsequent soundtrack.
Geoffrey Deane and David Jaymes formed Modern Romance in 1980, having previously been the mainstays of the punk parody band the Leyton Buzzards. Following hot on the heels of their début UK chart success Everybody Salsa in 1981, Modern Romance reached the Top Ten of the UK Singles Chart with Ay Ay Ay Ay Moosey - an eponymous chorus chanting salsa linked lyrics. After this, they scored a #2 hit on the Billboard Dance chart with the single "Can You Dance", backed with a 'clubland mix' of the same track and another song, called Bring On the Funkateers. After covering the 1955 hit Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White, Deane departed the band to pursue solo projects.
Frozen Planet
It's seldom that I actually feel I get value for money by paying for my TV license to the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) given that we have a wealth of other channels available and have to continue paying for this license, essentially when it's really only a handful of channels we're paying for - but over the past month or so I've been watching a nature series called "Frozen Planet" narrated by the legendary David Attenborough which took us on a journey through both the North and South Pole following the changing seasons and it's effects on the poles and it's animals.
I've never really watched a nature program before as they've never really struck me as interesting - don't ask my why I managed to watch the first of the series but I was hooked from there. Each week thereafter was an appointment set in stone in front of our TV. For anyone not lucky enough to have been able to view this on their TV, get yourself over the BBC's iPlayer service here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00mfl7n/episodes/guide) and watch the last 6 episodes - I guarantee, if you have an interest in the world in general and how the poles affect the planet's weather system, you'll be blown away and amazed at this stuff - from the emigrating animals in winter to the challenges faced by the film crew, it's just one fascinating story after another
Just prove me wrong, go !!
