Spybot?

I can't believe it!! I just cleaned a slight malware problem,,if there's anything you would consider slight when it comes to malware. But after installing Windows Defender, I sent the man home with his computer. Awhile later,,he calls complaining why I put that sh*t(WD) on his computer?? I said about how good it is and on,,and on. He said."remove it". He comes back and I try SAS, he says no,,I say,Spyware Terminator,,"no". I said you name it,,and it took all I had in me not to fall over laughing when he said,,"I want the best,,give me SpyBot Search and Destroy". Marko,,Marko,,Marko,,that is the only thought that went in my head for the last 3 hours. So now it seems that when I hear freeware I think FreewareBB,,gaday mate,I think of Jim,,and SpyBot?? Sorry Marko ,but the banter back and forth between you and Jim caused that,,buddy

Optimizers and Tweaks

When it comes to optimizing ,,I.'ve been through a vast array in a short time. Tweaking is something I prefer to do on my own. If I want the old computer a little bit smoother and faster, I just go to visual settings, uncheck every box but three to keep that look you like. Optimizers always want to "disable" Windows Update. Not too good. The same with the Start-up programs. That is like removing duplicate files,,,"unless" you know what you are looking at and you know what you need or not,,"leave it alone"
The registry falls under the same label !!!! Most cleaners like, Ccleaner,,Glary Utilities, and Acebyte can be ran on "Default settings". Otherslike Comodo System Cleaner, are more aggressive and should be monitored carefully. It's always better to get a little help every now and then. "Just Ask" ,,that's why "we're here" !!!!
Any input or criticism????

Search ability of Win XP over Win 7

Sunday 5 February 2012 4:54 p.m.

I am still a newbie with a 1 year old laptop and using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Under Win XP and its search function you could enter a word to find within the a file itself, not necessarily in the file name.

This was so good, but I cannot seem to be able to do that with Win 7. Yes it searches file names but I want to search say word (*.doc) files with any word say "barometer"? Or excel (*.xls) with the word "contribution". That general sort of thing.

Is there a freeware utility out there that does that or can Win 7 do that already for me, if I but knew how to use it?

Can anyone help?

All the best,

FireFox

This is almost an update of earlier post. I remember telling and asking for help when my Firefox 9 didn't produce a start page. All the tweaks and changing this and allowing that,,and still nothing. This went on all through the different versions of FF9,,including the betas !!!! "UNTIL"!!!! When I went to the first FF10 beta,,,,,"BINGO",,there it is my start page,,not a blank,,not my Google homepage,,but the genuine intergrated with Google FF start page. I've been following every version and updating beta after beta,,and so on ever since without a snag !!!! And ,yes,,I agree with Jim,, FF10 is very much an improvement in speed. Don't blink,,a new version is probably rolling out as I type this!!!!

Being just a newbie at this, I thought I'd give it a shot away from Facebook for a change, which
can be rather boring at times. Maybe I can learn a few things for here by just hanging around.
Looking forward for the fun to begin.
Oh, by the way, my name is Burt or Burton, I'll answer to anything except late for supper. HA HA:)

For long term, which is better to back up your files to, a thumb drive or a hard drive?

I have people ask me all the time where / how to back up their files. They state how easy it is to back up their files to a thumb drive and could put it in a safedeposit box for safe keeping.
I am not sure which format would be best for long term storage and where the files would be the most stable.

Thanks for you suggestions
