- On Demand Scanner - with Skinnable Simple Interface - just select what do you want to scan in which way and press the Play button.
- On Access Scanner - resident scanning of all files being opened, read and written and behavior blocker monitoring dangerous actions of viruses.
- E-mail scanner easily integrates with most mail clients and it checks both incoming and outgoing mails, it provides heuristic analysis of mail content to protect against new Worms.
- Network Shield - scans traffic for malicious content - lightweight Firewall.
- Resident protection for IM programs (e.g. MSN Messenger, ICQ) and P2P programs (e.g. Kazaa, DirectConnect).
- Boot Time Scanner - scans disks in the same way and in the same time as Windows CHKDSK does (on NT/2000/XP only).
- Explorer Scanner - right click on the object allows you to scan it.

When we last updated avast! Free Antivirus, we made sure it was still virus and malware free and the developer's site had no proven issues in any of the reputable site advisory services. In the unlikely event you notice any issues, please let us know immediately, otherwise we will schedule this software for another scan the next time it is updated.

Not sure this should have been released just yet, I found a lot of false alarms with the new Avast, particularly the web shield settings!.
Not tried it myself yet G, but may give it a whirl shortly.
As promised in V6, we now have the Sandbox feature which can seperate your physical machine from the rest of the world meaning harmful viruses, etc, cannot change any critical files or infect

Currently running Avast v5, had a read through the upgrade guide on the Avast site and it appears you do not need to uninstall v5 prior to installing this new version (6). However, it was not entirely clear.
Can someone kindly confirm; can users simply install this new version over the top of v5 or does v5 need to be completely uninstalled first??
