(REMOVED) Digital Lifeboat v2012.01.18.1
2 Votes
Digital Lifeboat is a cloud-based online backup & recovery service for PCs and is free to backup up to 10 GB. Protect your photos, videos, documents & music with AES-256 encryption protection.
We are here to help you protect the most important data on your computer. Think about the documents or pictures you’ve created or which someone has sent you. You need to protect the music and videos you enjoy. If they get lost or damaged, there’s no replacing them. As more of your life’s memories are stored on your computer, it is critically more important to create a secure copy or “backup” of those files, photos, videos and music. This is when Digital Lifeboat comes to the rescue!
Digital Lifeboat protects your PC files from accidental deletion, hard drive failure, natural disasters like fire or flood, and loss or theft of your PC. Once you sign up for Digital Lifeboat we continuously and automatically backup and protect everything important on your computer. Signing up is simple and our service is easy to use. You can manage everything from our friendly website or our useful Tray Application.
How is Digital Lifeboat different than other options? Automatic configuration, so you’re up and running in 90 seconds. We use AES-256 encryption to protect your data, and we break every file into multiple fragments which we send into the Digital Lifeboat Cloud. This adds an element of security traditional Data Centers do not have.
Our service is free for up to 10 GB of backup per PC you add. If you install and remain an active user, the service is always free under 10 GB. If you add another PC to the service, or restore your data to a new PC after the first one crashes, the service is always free! Finally, we are constantly adding features to improve our service based upon your feedback. You are part of building our business and brand, and we thank you!
Free registration is required on the authors site and each account receives 10Gb online storage

I downloaded the app and installed it without any problem. It immediately began to scan my computer without letting me choose what folders and users I wanted scanned. After a short time, the scan stopped and a browser window appeared with the announcement that my computer was over 10 G and I needed to pay $49.95 now to continue. I wasn't willing to continue. Looking at my options, I saw that there was one to choose what files you wanted. I choose some files, but most of the folders that I wanted to back-up did not even appear. What did appear was 2.4G. I tried to backup but could not. I repeatedly tried only to get the page wanted my credit card number. I tried to delete my account; I could not. I tried to email them but could not without paying $49.95. Then I tried to uninstall but could not without getting task manager running to stop the service and processes. After uninstalling I searched the registry with JV16, found some entries and tried to delete them, but found that 2 could not be deleted. So beware. These problems could be because they are a new company.
I'm suspending this file based on your findings SP and will investigate and act accordingly - thanks for taking the time on this one
Support for this file has been removed - installing and using this software enables only a FREE 30 DAY ACCOUNT with the developers website, after which time payment is required and it's therefore NOT freeware.
I downloaded Digital Lifeboat back when it was in beta. The hook was if one came in on beta, they would have free use forever. I found a similar problem when I first activated it, in that I thought I could select files I wanted to back up before the backup. No go, Digital Lifeboat backed up all my files.
Also, I found out that how they work it, is that they use file space on users machines as their servers! I have a 2T backup connected by USB and found over 8GB of someones files. I removed the program from the add-remove in the Control Panel, but still have problems. It seems they install a network connection on one's computer. I've tried to solve the problem, w/o success. STAY AWAY FROM DIGITAL LIFEBOAT!!
