Windows 8 Developer Preview provides an early look at the next generation of Windows, complete with touch interface, brand new desktop apps, and more. once it´s launched you´ll find the new Metro-style desktop (if you´ve ever used or seen Windows Phone 7 then you´ll know exactly what to expect) comes packed with extras. So as well as links to Explorer, Control Panel, IE and the old-style desktop (which is still available, if you get lost) there´s a weather app, social networking tools, games, productivity apps and a whole lot more.

Windows Live Movie Maker has adopted the ribbon too, seems MS is sold on the idea. <le sigh>
Certainly in no rush to download this
Ribbons belong in hair, that's the only place they tidy up.
When is Windows'98 third edition expected for release?
The new everywhere-ribbon can be disabled globally with one simple click.
Windows'8 Win-Explorer: hide all menus in the upper left-hand corner.
Otherwise I think Win8 is far too ambitious. Merging hand-held OS with desktop OS may at first glance seem futuristic but this will not translate well on corporate workstations or Government machines. Consumers with limited computing needs should take instantly to Win'8 but powerusers, enthusiasts and I believe Pro's will go back to the more traditional desktop.
Or, maybe I'm in a foul mood because the worlds stock markets are in free-fall this week!

Win8 and Lion are trying too hard to impress. Mobile OS belongs on mobile devices. The first thing I did when I installed this was to turn off "Metro" and switch to the classic desktop view which, imo, is exactly the same as Win7.
